Farming in Mesopotamia

Hi. My name is Ninda. It means bread. My father is a farmer. I help my father a lot by maintaining the farm. We Farmers raise grains, fruits, vegetables and barn animals. We domesticate many animals like sheep, goats and pigs. Sheep are very important here. They provide us with wool meat and even dairy. We use oxen for pulling the ploughs, wagons and haul boats against the rivers.
Here in Mesopotamia we grow many crops. Wheat and barley are the most important crops of them all. Some of the most important grown fruits here are dates, grapes, figs, melons and apples. Some of the most important vegetables we grow are onions, eggplant, radishes, beans and lettuce. We farmers irrigate the land and then start planting sesame seeds, barely, millet and beans. Most farmers make tools with clay, stone and timber .For some of our tools we use metal or wooden plows.
Cakes for special occasions are made with butter, cheese, dates, flour, and raisins. We of course provide the butter, cheese, dates, flour and raisins. Cattle is domesticated and used for food and sacrifices. Donkeys are used to carry heavy loads, on their backs or pulling carts, and for riding.
We Sumerians had gardens shaded by tall date palms where we grow peas, beans and lentils, vegetables like cucumbers leeks lettuces and garlic. Other grown foods are beetroot, turnips, pears, pomegranates, nuts and various herbs. Milk from sheep, goats and cows are used to make butter and then cheese.
When my father is too old to take care of our farm, I will inherit it. I canā€™t wait! I love this farm and all the animals and fruits and vegetables. And that is how and what we farm here in Mesopotamia.
